Wednesday October 26
Today was Writing Wednesday. We read a Halloween story and talked about costumes and dressing up. Our learners shared what they want or will be wearing for Halloween or what they enjoy wearing when playing dress up. We copied from the board, "I am a" and our writers tried to write the beginning sounds or copied words from a sticky note.
We continued to look at numbers from 1-10. Today we looked at counting backwards and sequencing the numbers from 10-1. Our learners practiced as a group and independently with a set of numbers.
Kindergarten had book exchange . PM Kindergarten went to the gym and practiced bouncing, throwing and catching a variety of ball.
Halloween Guidelines
The calendar this year gives an interesting start to this week with Halloween falling on a Monday! This can be a fun learning and social opportunity, especially at a K-4 school like ours. Our goal is to enjoy this opportunity in an inclusive way while ensuring we keep our focus on learning for both October 31 and November 1. Here are a few guidelines to help us meet this goal:
Learners are welcome to wear costumes on Mon. Oct 31 if they wish to wear them.
Please no masks or faux weapons of any kind as they really distract from learning.
If a costume makes learning a major challenge (ie. large inflatable costumes!) we kindly ask learners to wear it only for a portion of the day.
As a part of the fundraising efforts of our learners during the Terry Fox Run, we will be watching a short movie in the afternoon together in the gym. We will also be providing popcorn graciously supplied by our School Council. If you would prefer that your child not have this snack, please notify their classroom Teacher.
AM Kindergarten will do a movie in the classroom in the morning.
On November 1 (and ultimately on every school day) we ask that learners not bring a large amount of treats as snacks or lunch. As a reminder, we are also a nut-free school. We appreciate that good nutrition helps learning, and only a small personal treat would be appropriate for school.
