We learned more about the Medicine Wheel and read the story, " The Medicine Wheel ".  We read, " When We Are Kind " and drew in our medicine wheel about when we show kindness. We had library exchange and gym today. We did stations in the gym.  AM Kindergarten had music. We read, "Not A Stick" and passed around a stick and had to show what we would make out of a stick. Today we learned about land acknowledgments and watched the video from the Calgary Public Library . We practiced the actions to go along with the land acknowledgment. We talked about the Medicine Wheel and read the story, " The Hoop Dancer's Teachings " We talked about our gifts and talents that make each one of us unique and read " There's Only One You " We are creating our own medicine wheel and drew our special gifts that we share with others. We played math games. We played our sequencing dice game and used 6 dices to play in order from smallest to biggest.  PM Kindergarten had music.  Volunteer Needed!   Kindergarten was very lucky to be able to purchase a doll house from the casino funds.  We are looking for someone who would be willing to come into the school and build the doll house for us.  If you are able and interested in this volunteer opportunity, please email your child's teacher. Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles. We learned about the letter I today. We read, "Iguana on Ice" and tried to pick out all the words that begin with I. We talked about how the letter I can make 2 sounds a short and a long vowel sound.  We practiced printing the letter I and drew pictures of things that begin with I. We learned the jolly phonics letter I song.  We played a dice sequencing game. We had to roll 3 dice and place them in order from lowest to highest. We played with a partner and had to see who could do it the quickest. We challenged ourselves by using up to 6 dice at the same time.

Today we read, "Not A Box" and used our imagination as to what a box could be. We shared with a partner and then drew about it in our journals for Writing Wednesday. Ask your child what they drew about. We are practicing copying print from the board and sounding out beginning letter sounds in words. We did a dot art to represent our age. We practiced printing "I am ___" and did dot art with paint to share our age. This is part of our all about me box we are creating.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. We read, "What Makes Us Happy" and shared about what makes us happy. We noticed how the story was construction paper illustrations and we made our own construction illustrations to share about what makes us happy. We played math games. We practiced power of ten and race to 10.  We continued to work on our colour monsters.  We used oil pastels to colour the monsters based on how we are feeling. We talked about how colors can sometimes represent different feelings and emotions.  PM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson.  There was a fire drill practice for PM Kindergarten. Today the children got to preview the book fair. It will be open all week for the children to purchase items. If you would like to send some money for your child to purchase an item, please send it in a label bag or envelope. There is a book fair handout that went home today in the folders with all the information about it.  EHS BOOK FAIR INFO AM Kindergarten had music and gym. PM Kindergarten went to the fire station. We read, "The Color Monster" and talked about different emotions. We talked about how we were feeling today and then did a guided drawing of a colour monster with a sharpie. We will be using oil pastels to colour the monsters based on how we are feeling. We had a great day today. We started our morning with cooperative games. We are practicing skills such as taking turns, winning and losing gracefully and team work.  We read, "What Makes Us Happy" and shared about what makes us happy. We noticed how the story was construction paper illustrations and we made our own construction illustrations to share about what makes us happy. We went outside to play in the snow and enjoy the sunshine. We had our Green Fools Presentation. It was lovely to see so many parents. All the children did a wonderful job displaying all their talents and hard work from these past few weeks. 

Mrs. Mask's AM class went to the fire station and had a fantastic time. The children learned about fire safety and got to see all the equipment outside of the truck and on the inside. The children got to sit in the drivers' seat. They also talked about all the protective gear a firefighter wears and one of the firefighters put on all his gear to show us. Today we read, "Kindness is my Superpower" and talked about acts of kindness. We then did a guided drawing of a superhero and talked about what our superpower would be. Ask your child what their power would be.  AM Kindergarten had music and Green Fools. Ask them about what they learned.  We had library exchange.  PM Kindergarten played math games and a mystery bag game. We had to guess what is in the bag based on clues about how many syllables, what it rhymes with and its beginning sound. Friday is PM Kindergarten. We will be going outside to play so please dress for the weather. Thank you. We had a fun filled day today. We started with arrival activities.  We read, "Ten Black Dots" and talked about what we could make out of dots. In our visual journal, we used sharpies and colourful dots to make a picture. We played our Power of Ten math game with a partner.  We read, "Our Class Is A Family" and talked about ways that our class is like a family. We did our writing journals and drew a picture about what is special in our class. The children drew their pictures and wrote our class in their books.  Mrs. Conley's class went to the fire station and had a fantastic time. Today was a great day at school!  We are learning about the letter P this week. We read, "The Pigs' Picnic" and learned the   Letter P Song  . We talked about things that start with the letter P and practiced printing the letter P in our printing booklets.  We continue to learn all about ourselves.  Today we focussed on how old we are and completed an art project with our names for our special "All About Me Boxes". AM Kindergarten had music and all Kindergarten attended Green Fools.  Please ask them what they did. PM Kindergarten played power of ten war. Using the power of ten cards (ten frames), the children divided their set of cards between them and a partner. They flipped the cards over at the same time and had to state how many they had. " I have ___"  The person with the highest number would state ___ is bigger than ___ and get to keep the cards. The game is over when one player runs out of cards.
