                                                                                               Happy Halloween! Today we had lots of excitement over seeing everyone's costumes. We started our morning with arrival centers. We watched " Ten Timid Ghosts" and then played a guessing ghost game. We had to guess which classmates were hiding behind the sheet.  PM kindergarten practiced sequencing numbers from 1-10 by cutting out the numbers and pasting them in order. We learned a number math game and played with a partner.  AM Kindergarten had music and gym. Ask them what they did. Today was a great day at school!  We read the beginning of the story "Christopher Pumpkin" and began working on our prediction skills.   We then had a chance to draw pictures in our journals to predict (guess) what might happen at the end of the story.  After we completed our predictions we came back to the carpet to hear how the story ended.  Please ask your child if their prediction was correct. We continued to work on sequencing numbers. We had to try and fill in the missing numbers going forwards and backwards from number 1-10  PM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. Ask your child what they did.  Kindergarten is looking for empty Kleenex boxes.  Each child needs an empty box for an upcoming project in November.  Please send us your empty Kleenex boxes the week of October 31.  If you are able to send more than one box, we would greatly appreciate it. Today was Writing Wednesday. We read a Halloween story and talked about costumes and dressing up. Our learners shared what they want or will be wearing for Halloween or what they enjoy wearing when playing dress up. We copied from the board, "I am a" and our writers tried to write the beginning sounds or copied words from a sticky note.  We continued to look at numbers from 1-10. Today we looked at counting backwards and sequencing the numbers from 10-1. Our learners practiced as a group and independently with a set of numbers.  Kindergarten had book exchange . PM Kindergarten went to the gym and practiced bouncing, throwing and catching a variety of ball.  Halloween   Guidelines The calendar this year gives an interesting start to this week with   Halloween   falling on a Monday!  Today we read, "Room On The Broom".  We then worked on sequencing the events of the story, looking at which characters joined the broom next. We looked a numbers 1-10 and practiced sequencing.  Today we put the numbers in order from 1-10. We had snack and centers.  Today we had many new Halloween centers.  We enjoyed the new potion making center where we are following recipes to make potions. The afternoon had music with Mrs. Coulson. Friday is a PD day - there is no school. We had Halloween arrival activities to start our day. We are focusing on fine motor activities such as lacing, printing letters and words and cutting.  We read," Pete the Cat Five Little Pumpkins" and then we acted out the 5 little pumpkins poem.  We did a 5 little pumpkins are in our visual journals. We had to cut out pumpkins and draw faces and a fence to place them on. We also practiced writing the numbers 1-5.  AM Kindergarten had music and gym with Mrs. Coulson and Mrs. Watterson. PM Kindergarten had gym with Mrs. Mask. Ask your child what they did in music and gym.  Friday is a PD day. No school for Kindergarten.  Today we started our day with cooperative games and puzzles. We read, "Fletcher and the Falling Leaves". We talked about what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story. We did a guided drawing of a fox by following along with Art Hub for Kids. Our learners showed what artists they are! After drawing their fox with sharpie, the children then painted with watercolours. We had music with Mrs. Coulson. Please ask your child what they did in music. We read, "Leaf Man" and created our own leaf creations with loose parts. Ask your child what they created. We played a beach ball alphabet game where we had to throw to a classmate (using their name) and then share what letter our thumb was touching. Today we read, "Creepy Crayons" by Aaron Reynolds. We were excited to see that the creepy underwear and carrots made an appearance in the story. Ask your child what happened with the purple crayon in the story. We then did a creepy crayon activity and made our own purple crayons. This week we have been continuing to focus on our cutting skills. Please practice this at home by having your child cut up paper from the recycle bin or cutting up playdough. Both groups went outside to enjoy the sunshine before the weather gets colder. We made patterns with our bodies using actions and practiced labelling them with partners.
