  Congratulation to our Kindergarten learners on an excellent year! It has been an absolute pleasure teaching this group of learners. We wish them the best of luck next year in Grade 1. We want to thank our parents for all their support this year. Thank you for being so involved in your child's learning. We appreciate all the help from all of our lovely volunteers.  We will miss everyone and hope everyone has a fun and safe summer! 

Wednesday June 28

Today we had a ton of fun in the sun! Sports Day was a great day! We rotated through different centers throughout the school and field. Ask your child about their favourite activity. We were too busy having fun to snap pictures . Tomorrow is the last day of school. We are so proud of our learners and how far they have come. We look forward to one last day together before they head on to Grade 1!

Tuesday June 27

Today we had a chance to visit some of the Grade 1/2 classes. We had a chance to meet Mrs. Day, Mr. Campbell and Mrs. Palmer. Ask your child what they did in the Grade 1/2 class and what they are looking forward to most.  Tomorrow is Sports Day. Please dress in comfortable footwear (no sandals) for the activities. Please make sure to wear a hat and send a waterbottle. Please apply sunscreen prior to coming to school.

Monday June 26

Today we read, "Grade One Stinks". Ask your child what happened at the end of the story. We drew in our journals about what we are excited about for next year.  Your child came home today with their blue journals. We won't be using them again this year.  AM Kindergarten went outside with Mrs. Coulson and Mrs. Watterson. PM Kindergarten went outside and played with the equipment. We read, "The Lonely Firefly" and watched Sci kids "Fireflies: Nature's Baffling Blinkers" and then we did a guided drawing of a Firefly. Today we read, 'What's Your Favourite Bug? " and then we talked about our favourite bug and why we like that bug. We used scrap pieces of paper and made our favourite bug. Mrs. Conley's and Mrs. Mask's PM class had music. Today we talked about National Indigenous Day. We watched a video about the 3 flags that we have in our school and the significance around the flags and what they symbolize.  Mrs. Mask's AM class had music. Mrs. Conley's class and PM Kindergarten worked in their journals today. They drew pictures about their favourite memories of Kindergarten. We went outside for a break today to enjoy the sunshine.  We learned about the Grasshopper. We read, "Are You A Grasshopper?" and watched a kids video about Grasshoppers. We did a guided drawing of a grasshopper in our visual journals and painted it with watercolour. Tonight was the last day for home reading, please send all the books back tomorrow. We appreciate all your hard work with reading with your child. We learned about the dragonfly. We read, "Dragonflies" and watched Super Strong Dragonflies by Sci Kids to learn more about the insects. We did a guided drawing with sharpie and then used watercolour to paint them.  In math, we continue to work on subtraction.  Today we had 10 counters and had to hide some under a cup. Our partner had to figure out how many were missing.  In the PM class, we practiced writing out subtraction sentences and worked on problem solving.  PM Kindergarten had music and w e played cooperative board games. Today was a great day at school!  We had centers and snack.  The AM kids had music and gym.  The PM kids learned about dragonfly's and did a guided drawing of a dragonfly.   We did a drawing of animals that we saw at Butterfield Acres on Friday.  We used our sharpies to draw the pictures and our pencil crayons to colour the animals.  We tried to write the animal name by each drawing. In math, we continue to work on subtraction.  Today we used playdoh that we had rolled into 10 balls.  Then we took some of the balls away to find out how many were left. The Bowles/Palmer Grade 1/2s have been learning about financial literacy in Wellness. We have learned that there are three different ways to use money: spend, save, and share.  While learning about sharing (charity) we have decided to hold a Children's Used Book Sale to raise money for a charity that helps newcomers to Canada from Ukraine. What a fun filled day at Butterfield Acres!  It was a beautiful morning in the sunshine. Ask your child about their favourite part of the morning. A HUGE thank you to our amazing volunteers for joining us. We appreciate you taking the time to join us. 

Thursday June 15

Today was a great day at school!  We continued to learn about insects and today learned about ants.  We did a guided drawing of an ant and painted the ants.  AM Kindergarten went to the gym and had centers.  Please ask your child what center they played in the gym. The Bowles/Palmer Grade 1/2s have been learning about financial literacy in Wellness. We have learned that there are three different ways to use money: spend, save, and share.  While learning about sharing (charity) we have decided to hold a Children's Used Book Sale to raise money for a charity that helps newcomers to Canada from Ukraine. On Tuesday, June 20th. Students will have the opportunity to bring  a loonie  to purchase up to  four books. Thank you for supporting our students' charitable spirit. Wednesday June 14

Today was Writing Wednesday, we wrote about our favourite thing about Coulee School.We focused on drawing a picture with lots of details and practiced writing a sentence. We are looking at using a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence, spaces between our words and a period at the end of the sentence. AM Kindergarten had music. We learned about subtraction today. We practiced with subtracting from the number 10. We played a few games to help us with our understanding. AM Kindergarten learned about Spiders and PM Kindergarten learned about Bees. We read stories and books to learn some interesting facts. We did a guided drawing and then used watercolours to paint it. This Friday is our field trip to Butterfield Acres. Thank you to everyone that has completed their forms. Today was an exciting day at school as we had special guests! Meet the zebra isopods! A big thank you to Claire's family for lending them to us for the day. We had so much fun watching the isopods and learning about them.  We read, "A Pill Bug's Life" and "Next Time you See a Pill Bug" to learn some interesting facts about the isopods.  After reading about them, we got to hold them and use magnifying glasses to get a closer look. We sketched the isopdos in our visual journal.  We then read, "The Roly-Poly Princess" which taught us about the special job the isopods have in nature. Ask your child what their job is and why it is so important. Other question to ask your child: What bigger group of animal do they belong to? Why aren't they insects? What do they eat?
