Today we started our day with centers. Both groups went to do their mask making for the Lion King play.A huge thank you to all the parents who came in and helped us. We appreciate all your help and support! As the group was mask making, the other group was doing chicken art. Mrs. Conley's class used their scissor skills and made a chick and Mrs. Mask's class did water colour chicks.  We did loose parts play with farm animals. We created a scene and told a story with the farm animals.  AM Kindergarten got their Lion King Posters Tickets go on sale Monday.  Today we did some chicken art. We used sharpies and did a guided drawing of a chicken and then added some decorative details and bright watercolours to finish the art.  We added another page to our chick booklets.  In the PM, we candled the eggs. We noticed some eggs look like they aren't developing and we could see veins in others. We are very excited to see how many chicks we get.  AM Kindergarten went outside and PM Kindergarten had music. Today was Writing Wednesday. We have been talking about yesterday, today and tomorrow. We talked about something we did yesterday and drew a picture about it in our journals. We copied, "Yesterday, I ..." We continued to work in our Chick booklets and wrote about what chickens like to eat. AM Kindergarten had music. Ask your child what they worked on.  We had math groups and continued to work on making sets of numbers and breaking them apart. PM Kindergarten did their mask making for the Lion King. Today we read, "Meet a Baby Chick" and learned about what happens to chicks after they hatch. Ask your child what they learned. We added another page to our Chick booklets. We practiced some chick songs that we will be singing for you at the celebration of learning. PM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. We designed our masks for the Lion King musical. Today we read, "Chickens" and then wrote down a fact in our chick booklets. We drew a picture to go along with the fact. We are getting our books ready to share with you for our celebration of learning.  AM Kindergarten had music and gym. PM Kindergarten had gym.  We had math groups. Today we started our day with cooperative games. We played different board games that reinforce taking turns and and working together.  We read, "From the Egg to a Chick" and then candelled the eggs. Ask your child what they noticed in the eggs. We went to the Grade 3/4 Brox/Turner assembly about Earth Day. We read, "I am Earth" and "The Earth Book" and we did a guided drawing of the earth and coloured it in with oil pastel. Today we looked at the life cycle of a chicken. We talked about the 4 different stages. We wrote and drew pictures of the stages.  Today was Writing Wednesday. We drew about anything we were excited about. Many of our friends drew pictures of the chicks. Our learners used the sentence starters, "I like, I see, I can or I am" to do their writing.  We wrote a list of questions that "I Wonder" about the chicks that we will work at answering through our learning. We did another page for our book. We had to predict what egg we thought would hatch first. We read "Eggs and Chicks" and looked at what is inside the egg. Today we started our chick books. We will be writing in our books over the next few weeks to share about what is happening with the eggs and information we are learning about the eggs and chicks. We worked on a cover page for the book and the first page of our booklet. We drew the eggs in the incubator. We learned that they should hatch on day 21 ( today is day 5). We talked about what the eggs need to be taken care of. We read, "A Chicken's Life" and also learned about where the eggs came from. The eggs are from a farmer named Sage (she is 6 years old), you can check out her Facebook page at Honeycomb Poultry. Our class had blue layers and olive eggers for eggs.  PM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. It was an exciting day in Kindergarten as we have some special guests in our classroom. We have an incubator with 10 eggs. Our first job was to guess "What is in the egg?" We drew a picture on an index card and tried to sound out the word to our guess.  We watched a video " It's Alive" and had the discussion about what is a living thing. We learned about what makes something a living thing. Today we read, "A Little Spot of Belonging" and talked about what it means to belong. We talked about how it feels when we are included in different groups and how it feels when we are excluded. We talked about ways to make others feel welcome.  We talked about groups that we belong to. We wrote,  "I belong" in our visual journals and drew all the different community groups that we can belong to, starting with our own family, school and community activities.  AM Kindergarten went outside and PM Kindergarten had music. Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Our Kindergarten friends were excited to be back at school today! We continued working on "what does the shape say" and explored cylinders.  We turned our cylinder into a cake and wrote the description of a cylinder.    We talked about what a community is. We looked at a google map of Tuscany and describe the buildings and people we see in our community. We drew pictures on chart paper about what we can see.  We started literacy groups and each group worked on a variety of activities with their assigned teacher. Today was a fun day at school!  We continued working on "what does the shape say" and explored spheres.  We turned our sphere into a ball and wrote the description of a sphere.   We did a guided drawing of a rabbit and then we used loose parts to make houses for our bunnies. We went outside to draw shapes on the ground with chalk. We looked around to notice what shapes we see in our community. We had to do some challenges of drawing shapes that were larger than ourselves or small than our foot.  The PM class had music with Mrs. Coulson.  Today was Writing Wednesday. We watching, "How to Catch an Easter Bunny" and talked about ways that we could trap a rabbit. Our learners drew pictures about how they would catch a bunny and then wrote, "The bunny is___". Yesterday, we read the story "The Dragon Easter Egg".  In the story Lucy finds a special Easter egg at the hunt and out hatches something special.  We started to make our eggs with the guiding question, "what is in my egg?" . Today we drew, what we would hope to find in an egg. Ask your child what came out of their egg.  In Math we continue to explore 2 and 3D shapes.  We used a cone to make an ice cream and recorded how the ice cream to describe the a cone. Individual Spring Photos came home today. Please check your child's backpack. Picture orders are due by April 14th.
