Friday November 4

Today we started our day with cooperative games and puzzles.

We read, "Fletcher and the Falling Leaves". We talked about what happened in the beginning, middle and end of the story. We did a guided drawing of a fox by following along with Art Hub for Kids. Our learners showed what artists they are! After drawing their fox with sharpie, the children then painted with watercolours.

We played a beach ball alphabet game where we had to throw to a classmate (using their name) and then share what letter our thumb was touching. We also played a beginning sound Smart board game where we had to tap the beginning letter sound to match the picture.

We played the syllable game in the hub.  We are practicing break words into their segments.  There were pylons set up in the hub with numbers on them and we moved to the correct pylon number once we clapped the syllables out.

We played a new math game today called "Race to 10".   We used number lines, dice and teddy bears to race to 10.

We had centers and snack.  We went outside to play in the snow!

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. PM Kindergarten had gym. We looked at our Animals in Winter Inquiry and wrote about what bats(AM) and frogs (PM) do in winter. We will be creating a card for each animal we learn about. We will be writing about what the animal does in winter and art.  We had centers.  As a reminder, please send your home reading to and from school in the coloured folders. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles.
