Thursday December 8

Today we learned about the letter M. We read, "Monkey's Miserable Monday" and tried to pick out all the items that begin with M. We learned the jolly phonics letter M song. We practiced printing the letter M in our printing books. Can your child find items at home that begin with M. 

We read, Gingerbread Girl and made predictions how the story would end. We noticed what was similar and different from the previous two gingerbread stories we read.

AM Kindergarten had gym and PM Kindergarten had music. 

AM Kindergarten had their first lockdown practice. The children did a great job at being quiet and sitting still until the police officer came to talk to us. PM Kindergarten talked about it and we practiced what to do if there were a lockdown.

We are looking for volunteers to come help us make crafts!  Please email your child's teacher if you are interested in helping out.  Please remember all volunteers must have a valid police screening to volunteer in the school.

The Eric Harvie School community will be working together over the next ten days to help gather a range of thoughtful gifts and needed essentials to support 8 Calgary families this holiday season!

Steps: 1. Read through list for your child’s class using the links below 

2. If you have bought or already have a specific item put a “Y” next to the item on the spreadsheet 

3. Wrap and label your gift. If the first name has been provided please put that on the label. If it has not please put the description of the person being bought for, for example, Boy age 8 and we will be adding names to those when they are in the building. 

4. All gifts will be due on or before Dec. 15th 2022.

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles.
