Wednesday December 14

Today we read, "Snowmen At Night". We talked about what might happen to snowmen when we go to sleep. We drew in our journals, what we think snowmen do at night. We are working on adding details to our pictures and labelling our drawings with beginning sounds. 

We had library exchange and AM kindergarten had music.

We played math games. We practiced Race to 10, power of ten and our math battle game. We continue to work on skills such as counting on from the biggest number when adding two dice together and looking for the biggest number when comparing numbers. 

PM Kindergarten had a visit from some Grade 7 leadership students from TMC School. They visited our class and did a craft with us. Our learners loved spending time with the Grade 7 students. 

How to Catch a Gingerbread Trap Activity

Next week, we are making gingerbread traps to catch a gingerbread man. We are looking for recycled materials such as kleenex boxes, cereal boxes, paper towel rolls, shoe boxes, wrapping paper, bows, popsicle sticks, bubble wrap, clean yogurt containers, etc for the project. If you can send in any items, we would greatly appreciate it. Please send them in by Monday December 19.


Four Festive Days in December

We are excited to have teachers and students have the option to participate in a school wide "Four Festive Days in December" during the last week of school before Winter Break.

Dates and themes are as follows:

Mon, Dec.19 Red and Green Day - wear anything and everything red and green today!

Tues,Dec.20 Funky Socks Day - wear your funkiest pair of socks to school (you may want to bring an extra pair that day to wear home).

Wed, Dec.21 Holiday Hair or Hats Day - "whoville hair" is encouraged and hats can be worn all day!

Thurs,Dec.22 Pajama Day - wear your favourite set of pj's to school today!

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. PM Kindergarten had gym. We looked at our Animals in Winter Inquiry and wrote about what bats(AM) and frogs (PM) do in winter. We will be creating a card for each animal we learn about. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles.
