Happy New Year and welcome back to school! We hope you had a wonderful break. 

Home reading is going to start next week in Kindergarten.  Home reading will travel to and from school in your child's colored folders.  While we have most colored folders at school we are still missing a few.  If you have your child's colored folder please send it back to school ASAP.  

Library book exchange is also evolving as our kindies are becoming more independent at school.  Kindies will now be able to exchange their book any day of the week.  Once your child brings their current book back, they will be able to choose a new book from the library.  Students will have the opportunity during centers to go to the library and pick a new book.

Today was a great day at school!  We loved hearing about everyones adventures during Winter Break.  We worked on the letter G. We read, "Gorilla Be Good" and tried to find all the words in the story that begin with G. We learned the jolly phonics song and did our printing books for letter G.

We played tug of war math game which reinforces counting on from the biggest number when using dice. Children play with a partner and are trying to roll the biggest number. If they roll the bigger number, they get to move forward on the game board. Whoever reachers 10 first wins. 

AM Kindergarten had music and gym. Please ask your child what they were working on. PM Kindergarten had gym. 

Tomorrow we will be going outside to play.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the weather!

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. PM Kindergarten had gym. We looked at our Animals in Winter Inquiry and wrote about what bats(AM) and frogs (PM) do in winter. We will be creating a card for each animal we learn about. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles.
