Thursday September 15

Today was International Dot day! We looked at what you can make from a dot/circle. We practiced making pictures from dots on the whiteboards. Can you find items at home that have circles or dots?

We read, "The Dot" by Peter Reynolds and then made our own coloured dot paintings. 

We read, "The Button Book" and looked at buttons and tried to figure out how to sort them in many way. Many of our learners were able to show their learning in a variety of ways. Ask your child how they sorted their buttons. 

AM Kindergarten went outside and PM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. 

Tomorrow is PM Kindergarten. We will be going for a community walk to a forest. Make sure your child is wearing appropriate footwear for walking and exploring outside. We will have 3 volunteers joining us for the walk. Thank you to the parents/grandparents joining us. 

There will be plenty of opportunities in the future to join us if you had wanted to come this time but weren't able to go. :)

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. PM Kindergarten had gym. We looked at our Animals in Winter Inquiry and wrote about what bats(AM) and frogs (PM) do in winter. We will be creating a card for each animal we learn about. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles.
