Tuesday September 13

We started our morning with our arrival centers.

Today we read, "Be Who You Are" by Todd Parr and talked about what makes us special. We shared with a partner. We then took a look at Todd Parr's illustrations and talked about what we noticed. We used whiteboards to practice drawing like Todd. We then used our visual journals and drew a self portrait and painted using watercolours. 

We had some friends in our class present their all about me bags. We are having so much fun learning about everyone in the class. 

AM Kindergarten went outside to play and PM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson.

Some of our learners started their loose parts portraits. We will continue to work on them throughout the week. 

We had big centers. Ask your child who they played with and what they did. 

Please return all library books tomorrow as we will be doing book exchange on Wednesdays.

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. PM Kindergarten had gym. We looked at our Animals in Winter Inquiry and wrote about what bats(AM) and frogs (PM) do in winter. We will be creating a card for each animal we learn about. We will be writing about what the animal does in winter and art.  We had centers.  As a reminder, please send your home reading to and from school in the coloured folders. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles. We had centers and snack today.
