Welcome to Kindergarten!  We are excited to see everyone's smiling faces at school today!

Please check the blog regularly for a sneak peek into your child's day in Kindergarten.

The AM kindergarten learners were excited to meet all their new friends today.  

We continue to work on learning the routines in the classroom and developing our independence.  Thank you to everyone who has sent labelled indoor shoes for your child to wear at school.

We started our day with arrival centers.  Arrival centers are table top activities that help us to build our literacy and math skills.  Today we read the story I Promise and talked about the promises we can make at school to build a kind and caring classroom.  We drew pictures with sharpies in our visual journal of what we each are promising to do in our Kindie classroom.  We used watercolor paints to paint our pictures.

We decorated name cards for our coat hooks.  We had snack and big centers too.  Please ask your child what they played at during big centers.  The AM learners went outside to play at the park.

PM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson.  They started learning the song, Whoopsies, as they began to learn about growth mindset and taking risks in music.

Thank you to everyone who returned the All About Me bag.  We will begin sharing the bags on Wednesday!  If you have not returned your child's filled bag, please do so as soon as possible.

Friday September 9 is AM Kindergarten (8:20-11:55am).  Only the AM children will attend this day.

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. PM Kindergarten had gym. We looked at our Animals in Winter Inquiry and wrote about what bats(AM) and frogs (PM) do in winter. We will be creating a card for each animal we learn about. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Ask your child what they were working on.  AM Kindergarten had music and PM kindergarten had gym.  Lion King Play  - as a school we will be presenting the Lion King in May.  Kindergarten will be involved in the show as members of the "Pride Land".  Please watch your email for show dates and ticket information.  As part of the production we  are asking that every child bring in a ball cap that fits their child's head well, to u...

Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles.
