Today was a super day at school!

The AM classes had music with Mrs. Coulson and gym with Mrs. Watterson.  Please ask your child what they did in music and gym. PM kindergarten went outside to play. 

We had new arrival centers and continue to work on strengthening our fine motor skills.

We brainstormed Fall and talked about the changes we see in the Fall. We shared our ideas on chart paper and drew about all the things we know about Fall. 

We practiced cutting today. This is an important skill to practice at home. Have your child cut up leaves in the backyard, cut playdough or any of your recycled paper items (newspapers, magazines and flyers)

Our Terry Fox run will be held on Thursday - more details to follow.  In preparation of the walk, today we started to learn who Terry Fox was and why he is important.AM Kindergarten will participate in their own walk on the field. PM Kindergarten will participate in the school wide walk. If you are interesting in volunteering in the PM for our walk please email Mrs. Mask.

In 1980, Terry Fox set the bar high for himself when he started his Marathon of Hope, saying, “Nobody is ever going to call me a quitter.” Our school is proudly taking part in this year's Terry Fox School Run to continue Terry's legacy. Please support our school's fundraising efforts to raise much-needed funds for cancer research.

Eric Harvie School has participated in the Terry Fox Run each year since the school's inception. We have raised over $15 000 to date. Cancer has impacted our students, our staff and the entire Eric Harvie Community. "Somewhere the hurting must stop!"~ Terry Fox. Terry Fox has been an inspiration to generations of people including the smallest members of our school. His legacy lives on in all of us. Please help us raise much needed funds to put an end to the suffering. Let us help make our students' generation the last to carry this burden.

Eric Harvie School has set a goal to raise $2 500. If the students reach this goal we will be hosting a popcorn and movie afternoon for all the students.

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. PM Kindergarten had gym. We looked at our Animals in Winter Inquiry and wrote about what bats(AM) and frogs (PM) do in winter. We will be creating a card for each animal we learn about. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles.
