Tuesday October 11

Today was a great day at school! We started with new arrival centers. Many centers are focused on alphabet, counting, patterns and printing skills this week. 

We began our investigation of apples today.  We shared what we already knew about apples. We read        " How Do Apples Grow?"  We looked closely at the outside and inside of an apple. We did a guided drawing of an apple and will work towards labelling the parts of the apple.

We continued to explore patterning.  Today some of our friends helped us to build people patterns such as sit, stand, sit, stand.  We used manipulatives to make patterns at our tables.  We were challenged to make AB patterns, ABC patterns and AAB patterns.  Please have your child continue making patterns at home.

Tomorrow is library day.  Please make sure you send your child's library book back so that they can pick a new book.

AM Kindergarten went outside to play and PM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. 

Friday is AM Kindergarten. We are looking to go on a community walk and need 6 volunteers to join us. If you have a valid police clearance and are able to join us, please email your child's teacher and let them know. We will be looking to go from 9:15am to 11:00am. Thank you.

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. PM Kindergarten had gym. We looked at our Animals in Winter Inquiry and wrote about what bats(AM) and frogs (PM) do in winter. We will be creating a card for each animal we learn about. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles.
