Monday November 14

Today was a great day at school!  We are learning about the letter P this week. We read, "The Pigs' Picnic" and learned the  Letter P Song . We talked about things that start with the letter P and practiced printing the letter P in our printing booklets. 

We continue to learn all about ourselves.  Today we focussed on how old we are and completed an art project with our names for our special "All About Me Boxes".

AM Kindergarten had music and all Kindergarten attended Green Fools.  Please ask them what they did.

PM Kindergarten played power of ten war. Using the power of ten cards (ten frames), the children divided their set of cards between them and a partner. They flipped the cards over at the same time and had to state how many they had. " I have ___"  The person with the highest number would state ___ is bigger than ___ and get to keep the cards. The game is over when one player runs out of cards. You can play this game at home with a deck of cards. To challenge your child, you can flip over two cards at once and add them together. 

Fire Station Field Trip

Mrs. Conley's class will be going to the Tuscany fire station on Tuesday November 15.  We will walk to and from the fire station during our morning at school.  We will dismiss at the regular time.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the short walk over to the fire station.

Family Photos

We have been talking about our families at school.  If you are able to send us a family photo of your family that we can hang on a bulletin board at school we would appreciate it.  We will hang up any family photos we get at school in our display and return the photos to you in early December.  Many thanks for considering our request. We will continue to explore how families come in many different shapes and sizes.  

Green Fool's Residency Viewing

We have the pleasure of having Green Fools at Eric Harvie School from Nov. 7th through to Nov. 18th.  They have been teaching our students a variety of circus tricks from balancing, juggling, stilt walking and much more, and as a result are developing improved focus and self-confidence. You are invited to come and see what your child has been learning during their last session with Jeff and Skylar.  Please see the schedule below for the viewing time for each class.  We will be asking that you take off your outdoor shoes at the door so please bring indoor shoes if you do not want to be in socks.

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. PM Kindergarten had gym. We looked at our Animals in Winter Inquiry and wrote about what bats(AM) and frogs (PM) do in winter. We will be creating a card for each animal we learn about. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles. We had centers and snack today.
