Wednesday November 16

Today we read, "Kindness is my Superpower" and talked about acts of kindness. We then did a guided drawing of a superhero and talked about what our superpower would be. Ask your child what their power would be. 

AM Kindergarten had music and Green Fools. Ask them about what they learned. 

We had library exchange. 

PM Kindergarten played math games and a mystery bag game. We had to guess what is in the bag based on clues about how many syllables, what it rhymes with and its beginning sound.

Friday is PM Kindergarten. We will be going outside to play so please dress for the weather. Thank you.

Fire Station Field Trip

Mrs. Mask's AM class will be going to the Tuscany fire station tomorrow.  We will walk to and from the fire station during our morning at school.  We will dismiss at the regular time.  Please make sure your child is dressed for the short walk over to the fire station.

Family Photos

We have been talking about our families at school.  If you are able to send us a family photo of your family that we can hang on a bulletin board at school we would appreciate it.  We will hang up any family photos we get at school in our display and return the photos to you in early December.  Many thanks for considering our request. We will continue to explore how families come in many different shapes and sizes.  

Interviews

With interviews approaching, we are asking families if they would like to have an interpreter to meet with us to discuss how your child is doing in the class. The Calgary Board of Education offers interpreters for interviews. Please email your child's teacher if you would like to have an interpreter and share the language you would like the interpreter for. If you have already requested on, you do not need to respond again. Thank you :)

Green Fool's Residency Viewing

We have the pleasure of having Green Fools at Eric Harvie School from Nov. 7th through to Nov. 18th.  They have been teaching our students a variety of circus tricks from balancing, juggling, stilt walking and much more, and as a result are developing improved focus and self-confidence. You are invited to come and see what your child has been learning during their last session with Jeff and Skylar.  Please see the schedule below for the viewing time for each class.  We will be asking that you take off your outdoor shoes at the door so please bring indoor shoes if you do not want to be in socks.

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. PM Kindergarten had gym. We looked at our Animals in Winter Inquiry and wrote about what bats(AM) and frogs (PM) do in winter. We will be creating a card for each animal we learn about. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles. We had centers and snack today.
