Monday January 16

Today we had new arrival centers and started our home reading program. Your child chose 1 book to bring home and read this evening. In their coloured folder you will find a note to explain about home reading and a reading log. Please record the book only 1 time on the recording sheet. (Even though we encourage you to practice the story several times) Your child can exchange their book daily. This is meant to be a fun way to get your child engaged in the reading process so have fun with them when reading the books.  Happy Reading! :) If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to your child's teacher. 

We read, "Over and Under the Snow" and talked about what animals do in Winter. We are going to be answering this questions over the next few weeks as we start some animal research. As a class, we each had 4 gems to vote for the animals we are interested in learning more about. AM Kindergarten voted to learn about the moose, bobcat, hare, butterfly and bat . PM Kindergarten voted to learn about the fox, hare, bobcat, frog and ladybug.

AM kindergarten had music and gym. PM Kindergarten went to gym. 

PM Kindergarten played our dice battle game and practiced the skill of counting on from the biggest number. We encourage the children to play dice or card games at home to practice this skill.

We had big centers.

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. PM Kindergarten had gym. We looked at our Animals in Winter Inquiry and wrote about what bats(AM) and frogs (PM) do in winter. We will be creating a card for each animal we learn about. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles.
