Tuesday February 7

Swimming is coming up in Kindergarten from March 6-9 for both AM and PM classes.  If you are interested in volunteering for swimming you MUST have a valid police clearance.  It can take 3-4 weeks (or more) to get your clearance from the police.  If you have not started this process but are interested in volunteering for swimming please stop in the office with your ID this week.  More detailed information about swimming will be coming home with your child shortly.

Today was a busy day at school.  We continue to explore the number 10 and ways we can make 10.  Today we met a grumpy king who had enough money to buy 10 blocks and wanted to know how many towers he could make with his 10 blocks.  The king does not allow us to use the same number for any of the towers.

We also used white board and counters to break up the number 10.

We learned about be active, be strong, be ready to learn program and practiced exercises and movements we can do when our body has extra energy and ways we can calm our bodies down to be ready to learn. 

PM Kindergarten did a free journal write today. We got to draw and write about whatever we wanted to share about. We practiced making sure we are adding details to our pictures, colouring in the lines neatly, copying print from the board and attempting to write beginning letter sounds to the words we are writing about. 

PM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson.  Please ask your child what they did in the music room.

Valentine's Day

As part of our year-long focus on friendship and caring for others, the children are invited to bring a valentine for each person in their class on Tuesday February 14th. Please have your child print their name only on each valentine if they wish to participate. Please leave the "To" space blank, as it is easier for your child to hand out the Valentines to their friends. We ask that you do not send any treats with the valentines. Thank you for your cooperation. Feel free to wear pink, white, purple and red to celebrate the day.

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles.
