Wednesday March 1

We played sound alphabet bingo to practice our letter sounds. Have your child practice their letter sounds at home. You can incorporate sound recognition into daily activities. For example, at dinner, "We are having lasagna for dinner, what letter sound does lasagna start with? (You can try this with beginning or end sounds) You can also have your child go and find items. "Go find an item in the house that begins with ____ sound". 

Mrs. Mask's AM Kindergarten had inline skating. Thank you to our volunteers for coming and helping get the children geared up! We appreciate you lending us your time and efforts. 

Mrs. Conley's class and PM Kindergarten worked in our journals. We continue to work on making sure we are adding details to our pictures, colouring in the lines neatly, copying print from the board and attempting to write beginning letter sounds to the words we are writing about. 

We played math games. 

We learned about the letter Y and the sound it makes. We learned the jolly phonics letter Y song and practiced printing the letter Y in our printing books. We added 3 things that begin with Y. Can you find items at home that start with Y?

We are still looking for parent volunteers for swimming next week.  If you can help us, please sign up!

Next week is the Book Fair. We ask that Kindergarten parents DO NOT send any money for their child to purchase books as we will not have the time to visit the book fair due to swimming. The book fair will be open during conferences on Thursday evening and Friday. You can take your child when you visit the school. Thank you for your cooperation. There will also be NO library book exchange or home reading book exchange next week.

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. PM Kindergarten had gym. We looked at our Animals in Winter Inquiry and wrote about what bats(AM) and frogs (PM) do in winter. We will be creating a card for each animal we learn about. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles.
