 Day 1 Coulee School

Today was the "I predict" day of Coulee school for Kindergarten.  Before leaving for the coulee we brainstormed what we might see in the coulee. We read, " I Hear You, Forest"and talked about how nature can talk to us. We tried to listen to nature throughout our time and see what it was telling us. 

We walked to Waterfall valley, along Cattail river and up to Teepee forest.  We were exploring all of the areas to see what we could find.  While out on our adventure today, we played 2 Indigenous wide games. Scream and Run- A Blackfoot Game and A Circle Game - An Inuit Game.  Please ask your child to explain the games to you.

We had snack while we were at the Duck Pond. We got to listen to the birds and watch duck and Goose families. 

Once at teepee forest, we used magnifying glasses to look closely at plants and bugs. Ask your child some interesting things they noticed and found.  We used the colour swatches to match colours in nature.

Some reminders for Coulee school for the remainder of the week!  Please dress your child to be outside for 2.5 hours each day.  Good walking footwear is essential for these days to be successful, no flip flops or open toed shoes.  Please  apply sunscreen and bug spray at home prior to arriving at school.  Please have your child wear a hat to protect them from the sun.  All children need a small snack and a filled water bottle.  We have no access to drinking water once we are in the coulee.  Please pack a small "pocket sized" snack that your child can easily eat outside while we are on the go.  Bearpaws, goldfish, granola bars are all good options.  Please no fruit cups, yogurt tubes, etc.  For this week if your child has a small backpack that would be easier for them to carry, please send that with their snack and water in it.  We are trying to minimize the weight children are carrying.

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. Wednesday April 12

Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Ask your child what they were working on.  AM Kindergarten had music and PM kindergarten had gym.  Lion King Play  - as a school we will be presenting the Lion King in May.  Kindergarten will be involved in the show as members of the "Pride Land".  Please watch your email for show dates and ticket information.  As part of the production we  are asking that every child bring in a ball cap that fits their child's head well, to u...

Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles. We had centers and snack today.
