Wednesday June 21

Today we talked about National Indigenous Day. We watched a video about the 3 flags that we have in our school and the significance around the flags and what they symbolize. 

Mrs. Mask's AM class had music. Mrs. Conley's class and PM Kindergarten worked in their journals today. They drew pictures about their favourite memories of Kindergarten.

We went outside for a break today to enjoy the sunshine. 

We learned about the Grasshopper. We read, "Are You A Grasshopper?" and watched a kids video about Grasshoppers. We did a guided drawing of a grasshopper in our visual journals and painted it with watercolour.

Tonight was the last day for home reading, please send all the books back tomorrow. We appreciate all your hard work with reading with your child. Keep reading over the summer months!

Today we had writing Wednesday. We wrote about our favourite animal and why. We copied from the board, "I like ______. It can_______. We are working on trying sound out beginning sounds (some learners are working on stretching out the word and using beginning, middle and end sounds).We continue to focus on drawing neatly, adding details, colouring in the lines and copying print from the board.  AM Kindergarten had music with Mrs. Coulson. PM Kindergarten had gym. We looked at our Animals in Winter Inquiry and wrote about what bats(AM) and frogs (PM) do in winter. We will be creating a card for each animal we learn about. We will be writing about what the animal does in winter and art.  We had centers.  As a reminder, please send your home reading to and from school in the coloured folders. Today we had writing Wednesday. We read, "Helpers in my Community" and talked about who are the helpers we see in our community. We discussed what we would like to be when we grow up. Our learners drew a picture in their journal and wrote, "I am a ___". Ask your child what they want to be when they grow up. We did a rhyming activity with whiteboards. Our learners had to pick what words rhymed and print the word on their whiteboards.  We did math groups. Our learners broke into our math groups and worked on number activities. Monday November 28

Today was a great day at school.  We learned about the letter N. We read " The Nicest Newt" and had to find all the words that began with N. We learned the jolly phonics song for N and practiced the actions for all the letters we have been learning. (S, A, T, I, P, N) We practiced printing the letter N in our printing journals. The AM classes had gym and music.  Please ask your child what they did. PM class went to gym and did stations to practice skills such as catching, throwing, kicking and target practice.  We are very lucky to have some new centers to play with!  Thank you to the casino funds for allowing us to purchase the new toys.  The kinders loved playing the new cooperative game "Hoot Owl Hoot" and playing with the magnatiles.
